Etienne Aigner established himself as a purveyor of leather goods in Paris designing handbags and belts for the European Fashion elite, including Christian Dior and Cristobal Balenciaga. In1959 he opened his first showroom in Manhattan, showcasing craftsmanship learned in Europe and expressed through his growing line of leather accessories including handbags, gloves, scarves, and of course his signature belts. One hallmark of Etienne Aigner was his creative and innovative approach to the use of unusual materials in his accessories. Etienne built his reputation on designing the “it” bags of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s and the fine reputation of the brand has endured. Etienne Aigner’s bags are known for their signature “A” placed on every bag, exclusive materials used to craft each bag, and use of only the finest leathers.
