    Looptworks

Launched in September 2009, Looptworks is a ground-breaking business that repurposes abandoned materials into meaningful, long-lasting and limited-edition products. By re-using the world’s pre-consumer excess, the Portland, Oregon based company aims to rid the world of waste while inspiring a generation to reduce their impact on the planet. LOOPTWORKS takes an innovative approach to the design and production process, focusing on one simple concept – use only what already exists to make its products and run its business. Instead of using new materials to create its limited-edition clothing and accessories, LOOPTWORKS scours the globe for pre-production excess – leftover fabrics, buttons, zippers, thread, etc. that would ordinarily be thrown away. The company then locates a factory that uses fair labor practices near the source of the fabric, usually in Malaysia, Indonesia or India. It “upcycles” those materials into new and highly desirable designs, creating new products without wasting precious resources, while at the same time keeping waste out of landfills and helping other manufacturers reduce their ecological impact. Many items are limited editions due to the small quantities of certain materials available, and sport looped tags with a production number and information on the garment’s upcycled “history”.
