"Let me start off by saying I like the well vented back panel. There are about six very supple, very comfortable micro-foam pads running along either side of the back. The whole semi rigid panel is completely removable and washable which is nice since the foam pads will be sweaty after a long ride.
The organizational features are slim but adequate for a backpack this size. In the very front pocket there is a key lanyard, two mesh cell phone sized pockets and one larger notepad pocket.
I was not impressed with the clips on the cinch straps. They are not the regular buckle type fasteners that can be opened one handed by squeezing with the thumb and index finger. Disconnecting these clips requires you to use both hands to slide the two pieces past each other and it is just as tricky re-connecting them.
The yellow built in rain cover works just fine. It stows away in a small bottom pocket and is easy to slip out and cover the pack.
As far as capacity goes, it is just the same as the M.U.L.E without the NVIS back panel only they (whoever calculated the volume of the pack) have accounted for the space which the panel takes up. You can remove the panel to add more room.
The pack sits very comfortably on my shoulders and with the waistbelt and chest strap it doesnt wabble around when Im walking, running, or riding.
If there was anything Id change about the pack, I would default back to the regular style one-handed clips for the cinch straps. I would also probably include some deep, mesh water bottle holders on the side with the elastic opening. (I mean hey, this is optimized for biking and we should be able to carry some beverages other than what is in the bladder.) Other than that, this is another great backpack by Camelbak." |

"This is a pretty good bag like everyone else says once you put water in the bladder the only area you can use is the second pocket that has the organizer in it, but, other than that its a pretty small unobtrusive, out of sight LITTLE bag. I also like my TrailBlazer by Camelbak which is much lighter and bigger but, like one person said the M.U.L.E. is a good man-purse or coed-purse." |

"Man Purse 2: Man Purse Harder
Ive been using the Mule NV as a man purse (tactical assault carryall) for about six months. I spend my spare time exploring abandoned buildings, drains, spooky shut-down amusement parks, old mental asylums, etc. As you can imagine, this bag has suffered quite a bit of abuse (abrasion, tension, torsion, submersion), but has never failed on me (turns out, one of the straps can support my body weight). Thus far, the only noticeable damage is that the two reflective tabs on the straps have been torn off.
One thing to consider is that this is not a very big bag, its designed to carry what you need for 3-6 hours of mountain biking, for me it carries the necessary stuff (flashlight, notebook, camera, Clif bars, water, first aid kit) but it is definitely not something you can cram a full courseload of textbooks in.
Ive also used this pack for long distance running, and lengthier parkour excursions when I want to have some water available and it works very well/doesnt swing and slosh around when you adjust the fit properly (although it may take a while to get the right fit).
Organization isnt extraordinary, main pocket has none to speak of, secondary pocket has an organizer for pens, and a key lanyard. A pocket on top has a hole to route a headphone cord through. One thing worth noting is the NVIS back panel (the thing that makes it the Mule NV and not the Mule), the back panel contacts your back at five points, so the bulk of the pack sits an inch off your back, which improves airflow so the pack doesnt feel as hot.
The Mule NV is a durable and compact pack for shorter periods of activity, or a really cool manpurse. Highly recommended." |

"Theres not much room in the bag. Even with the bladder romoved, youre not getting much in it. With the bladder in, thats about all youre carrying. Keys & wallet, but not much more." |
