Tablet cases come in a variety of styles including bags, sleeves, and hard covers and which one you choose depends on how you plan to carry and use your device.

The most common form of case is the hard case or skin. These are designed to protect your device while in use. An iPad hard shell case, for example, conforms closely to the dimensions of your device but leave the screen and ports like the charging plug open. These cases are best if you plan to use your iPad often and want to protect it from occasional bumps while in use. Portfolio style cases are also common for protecting devices that you plan to use often. Unlike hard cases, portfolio cases not only hold your device, they also provide a cover for carrying inside a larger bag. Portfolio cases are particularly popular because they often fold over and provide a stand for your device.

For carrying your tablet computer from place to place, nothing is more ideal than a bag or sleeve. Bags include shoulder bags, backpacks, and more that have a dedicated compartment that fits your device. Sleeves, on the other hand, are padded jackets that hold your tablet and can be used in conjunction with any bag essentially turning your favorite work bag, backpack, tote, or messenger bag into an iPad bag. Both generally offer additional room and pockets for carrying other essentials.
