About Handbag Trends
Fall 2011 handbag trends are all about structure, texture, and deep, rich colors.
Color: As you can imagine, fall handbag colors tend to follow what's on-trend in fall fashion overall. You'll see a lot of deep colors like reds and browns and even some classic autumn shades like orange and golden yellow. However, the colors that are really hot this season are forest green, cognac, and purple. Look for deep, cool greens, caramel and buttery brown tones, and rich amethyst purples.
Structure and function: Structured Style continues from spring but in a much bigger way. Fall 2011 collections from designers and affordable brands alike are featuring more structured bags and more functional styles. Particularly popular this season will be the messenger handbag, the structured North/South tote, and the convertible satchel.
Texture: Interesting textures have been trend-right for many seasons now, but fall 2011 marks the return of quilting in particular. You'll see quite a few leather and faux-leather handbags with quilting detail either over the entire or part of the bag. Be sure to look for exotic skins as well: python, croc, and lizard skins (including faux embossing).
Other fall handbag trends to keep an eye out for: Top Handle Bags (many messengers will feature top handles), Flap Bags (handbags with flapover closures), and Color Blocking (bags that feature blocks, columns, or rows of striking colors).
