Carryland, a California corporation, was established in 1983 as a wholesale distribution arm of Bag-Mate LTD, a multifaceted vertical production facility in China. Bag-Mate handles most of the design and all of the manufacturing of the products through its Taipei offices and factory in South China. Carryland NY handles the sales, marketing and merchandising, while the distribution center is in Los Angeles, California.
Carryland is the registered trademark of the Carryland Company, founded by four brother of the LU family. The Lu's, Chinese-Americans who immigrated from Taiwan, pooled their expertise to form a solid marriage of talents between manufacturing, design, and business skill spanning the US and Asia.
Currently, Carryland's business encompasses the design and marketing of handbags, backpacks, travel and sport bags, and small leather good. Company brands are Carryland, CL America, Aurielle Leather goods and Connected. You can find these labels at Federated, May Company, J.C. Penney, and Sears department stores. Carryland is positioned as one of the two top non-designer brands in the moderate priced market.
