"I use it for a Sony SZ 13.3" laptop and don't carry any books usually. The laptop feels very very secure, and the bag is light, but not very spacious." |

"I use this backpack every day. I also curse at it every day. It is the closest I could find to what I wanted: a backpack that converts to a briefcase-like bag. Obviously, I don't want a formal briefcase, but something I can use more like a computer tote. It works very well for transporting a computer. I am a professor and I walk two miles a day to campus, and this is just right for that.
However, It is very oddly shaped. It is more like a cone rather than than the boxiness it appears to have in the picture. This probably makes it conform to the back more comfortably, but makes it very frustrating to load. It has to be on its side to load, but it will not stand on its own. It always falls over. I always have to hold it with one hand, and even then it is still cumbersome. Set it upright on a table, it falls off every time. You have to lay it on the back surface, which makes it impossible to load if you place it on the floor.
The other reason this awkwardness is a problem is that it's not very big. Mine is always overstuffed with 1 notebook, 3 books, lunch and a drink (not even with a computer yet). And because of the odd shape, if your keys are in the pocket, they will fall irretrievably into a corner that requires that you unpack everything else to get to them. Even throwing in a few pens and pencils seems to cause more trouble. My fold up umbrella has to be forced into it. This pack is most frustrating in those basic daily uses that it should be best designed for.
Once it is on my back, though, it is comfortable and sleek. An excellent carry-on for traveling with a laptop. But you had better have a good humor about it because it will test your temper." |

"This bag is is great as a convertable backpack. I use t for international buisness travel becuase with the shoulder strap it looks professional enough to take into meetings. The shoulder and backpacks straps are very comfertable. It provdies good protection for a laptop.
FYI it will only take smalish laptops. It fits my Lenovo X300 and Dell XPS 1330 which are 13" widscreens. It does not fits a 14" Lenovo T60. While it is the best I could find it could be better. JanSport should make an "executive" version of this bag with the following:
1) Black zippers and a little less porty look. Somehow hide or minimize the jacket/hat holder bands.
2) A little larger all around 10% - 20%. Just a bit larger. would be nice. Maybe just 1" wider in the compartment next to the laptop pouch would be enough.
3) A small "essentials" pocket with a seperate zipper for wallet, passport, earpolugs, medications and other small important stuff." |
