There is a roomy zippered pocket in the front with places for a phone, pen and cards as well as a zippered pocket inside. The whole bag also zips close for added security. "It's a lovely bag - huge, well organized, quality construction and materials. It is, however, too heavy for me. According to the specs, it's not much heavier than the Baggallini Town Tote, but the fabric and lining make it feel much bulkier than Baggallini or Vera Bradley totes. It's also bigger than I thought. I need a tote bag for school and internship. This is more like an overnight bag. Although this is lovely (it even has five little feet on the bottom, which the description does not mention), I already have an overnight bag. I'm returning it."
