Detailed Product Description

Tough Lightweight Smart – TLS truly defines the new Mother Lode series. We've completely re-designed our best selling wheeled duffels and added new features and innovative functionality and performance without added weight. If you're looking for outstanding design, style, and function, you'll find it in the new Mother Lode TLS series.

Designer Notes

When we set out to design the new Mother Lode wheeled duffels, we first turned to the experts – our Customers. Combing through thousands of testimonials, our goals were to identify the most (and least) loved parts of the bag, what were the key missing features, and what was the over arching mood of our customer. After 12+ months of development, we're confident the TLS collection will exceed your expectations. We kept the best parts of the orig. Mother Lode: Moveable shelves, double/single cavity conversion, long handles, and a bag that will stand upright. We added a number of new features: add-a-bag strap, expandability, compression straps, more zippered pockets, a flexible bottom compartment, an innovative patent-pending backbone for rigidity, and beautiful fabric. Enjoy! Bernard

"We already had a 29-inch rolling duffel, which has taken quite a beating from baggage handlers but withstood the abuse and is still in excellent condition. Holds a ton of stuff and is lightweight enough so that my wife can come in under the 50-pound limit (barely). I had purchased a 25-inch rolling duffel with a garment section, which was good for four-day trips, but I needed something larger for three weeks in Hawaii this winter. The new 29-inch Mother Lode is just as roomy as our older one, but with an additional side pocket that adds convenience. We have only had one problem with an eBags product ¿ a strap broke on the 25-incher to hold a computer bag. No huge deal. I asked eBags if it would cover the cost to fix it. Instead, they sent us a new duffel, which was unexpected. They've earned our loyalty with quality products and superb customer service."

"I travel about 300 days a year so I needed something that was going to last and make my life easier. I was hesitant about buying this because I am used to a 36" duffle. I am absolutely amazed at how much storage is in this unit. Everything I carried before fits in this duffel with room to spare. I love the fact that it stands on it's own. (something my previous units did not do.) I love the compartments inside the bottom. My clothes no longer get wrinkled or squished. This would be the kind of bag I would have designed had I had time to do so. I have had it on the road with me for 3 weeks now and everything is going great. It is very easy to load and unload from a trunk and it checks very well at the airport. I would highly recommend purchasing this to anyone that is thinking about buying a traditional suitcase. There is only one thing I would add to this unit and that would be a couple of runners on the back so that when you are going up and down steps the backside isn't getting scratched up. This isn't a problem if you lift straight up but if you are carrying other things it makes it difficult. This holds so much more in a smaller space. Normally I only get about a years use out of any of the travel luggage due to the abuse at airports and such. I have to say I have spent alot more and received alot less. If this lasts as long as my other units I will be ecstatic. I will add to this post in a few months to let you know how it is working."

"I really liked using this bag for a recent trip overseas. It held everything I needed and wanted. It wheeled nicely. It has a lot of configuration options. I really like the exterior compression straps but I wish that they included the main top pocket as well. I also was very happy that EVERY compartment can lock. The look on the TSA agent's face at my home airport was absolutely priceless when she saw all the locks and asked if they were TSA approved. This bag can hold 14 packing cubes (4 large, 3 slim, 1 small, 4 medium, 2 shoe bags and my makeup case)."

"A great bag, although a bit bigger than what I really need (25-inch is too small, 29-inch is too big ... how about a 27-inch, eBags?). And it's heavy when it's empty, so once you start packing, you quickly reach the 50-pound weight limit. Coming home from a recent business trip to Peru (the bags first trip), I was only 1 kg under the weight limit. Good things: Love the hard-shell bottom to protect my stuff. The depth is perfect for toiletries bag, shoes, etc., and the moveable dividers are handy. I like that you can unzip the top compartment and make one deep bag. The compression straps are perfect. The retractable handle is plenty long for tall girls like me. The pockets on the bottom of the top compartment and on the outside of the bag are great for little things. Downsides: The rods that you have to put in the top to make it stand up properly are flimsy and awkward (eBags: look at the Eddie Bauer duffle for a better idea). Theres no handle on the front of the bag or the side to make it easier to grab off the luggage carousel or lift into a vehicle. The only handles are the two at the very top of the bag they're so close together, it's almost useless. The sinful red I purchased was really more orange. No good place to attach a luggage tag. If you expand the bag, you're technically over the airlines linear inches size limit."

"This is the bag to end all bags. I have been traveling atleast 180 days a year for 13 years and I have been thru dozens of bags over the years, LL Bean, Travelpro, Tummi, Eagle Creek, Samsonite, to name a few and none of them compare to Ebags, they stand behind there product as if they want you for a life long customer, I have never had a problem with a warranty exchange, or with ordering spare parts, and I have never been charged anything at all. Take it from me and my extensive travel experience, there is not a bag on the planet that will hold up to harsh treatment of airline travel, you will need parts, wheels and handles mainly, but eventually the zippers and stitching will fail to the point where the bag needs replaced. I needed a warranty exchange on my bag after 2 and 1/2 years, the best I have ever seen a bag hold up on my travel schedule, and Ebags sent me another bag right away with no hassle. I would gladly pay twice the price they are asking because there product support is second to none. Thanks Ebags, I am a happy lifelong customer, I have purchased multiple bags for family travel, and I always recommend Ebags to anyone who might ask. Don't waist your money on anything else, learn from my experience."

"I purchased this item as my checked bag in planning to go on a European trip. When the bag arrived I was flabbergasted at how huge it was. I love the design. It is well constructed, too. But, it it is like Bagzilla! I knew if I filled this sucker up I would be way, way, way over the fifty pound limit. I sent it back unused. Instead, I ordered the same design in the Mother Lode Junior size. It was perfect for me and my three week's trip worth of clothing. Came in well under the weight limit."

"I just returned from a six week trip to Spain and used this bag for the first time. I was able to fill it to the max both ways with my stuff and gifts for folks on both sides of the pond. I filled it with the maximum weight allowed (even a bit more) and it performed beautifully, arriving safe and unharmed both ways (with three flights each way).It is my new favorite. Combine its capaciousness and the packing system that I also purchased from Ebags oh so long ago (cubes and folding packets) and I had a way to manage my stuff at my host's home once I got there. (No closets in Spain it seems)."

"The main concern I had with the bag is that the fiber glass rods did not come with clear instructions. Even the video that demonstrated the TLS features went too fast when it came to explaining how to install the fiber glass rods. After reading some of the written reviews, it occurred to me that some folks may not be inserting the rods to the BOTTOM RUBBER GROMMET of the bag. The rubber grommet has a hole that will hold the tip of the fiber glass rod, and will prevent the rod from shifting loose. Thus, the tip of an improperly installed fiber glass rod can easily tear through the bag. It would be helpful if the demonstration video actually showed where each end of the fiber glass rod should go. When you get the bag, there are no written instructions on how to install the fiber glass rods. With that said, I am pleased with the design of the bag. There are a variety of colors to choose from. I have purchased other ebag products and found the materials to be durable and reliable. I chose this type of duffel as I will take it on cruise ships, trains, and planes while touring the world. I recently took this bag to a cruise and it performed well. After the cruise, I immediately spotted the bag (I picked sinful red) at the luggage staging area. I will provide more feedback after a few more trips."

"This is a fabulous bag for holiday travel. It is lightweight, roomy and very functional. It's important for travel internationally because of weight restrictions per bag specifications as checked luggage. We went on a 2 week trip to Argentina and was able to basically put my clothing and my husband's clothing with shoes for the trip! We were able to also bring our toiletry fluids that was more than the 3oz minimum into this checked bag. The bag withstood the rough handling that occurs during airline transport handling. My husband wants to purchase another one so that we won't be too limited with what we carry back (souveniers), the next international trip that we take."

"This is a very nicely thought-through bag, and appears to be very good quality. It travels well. This bag, however, desperately needs a second grab handle on the top / front of the bag. There is the handle at the very top (small) edge hear the telescoping handle, and a grab handle on the top of the upper big side, just above the top compartment zipper. But none near the bottom, only the stand. NOBODY understands that the stand is also a handle, repeat: NOBODY. Yes, it's a clever idea but it is completely unintuitive. If the bag is standing up at rest, the bag is resting on this piece. NOBODY can see that this is the second handle - hence when a porter or driver is looking to pick up the bag they don't know where to grab. Neither do the unsupervised baggage handlers who are throwing this stuff around out on the jet way. So they just grab it by the one handle that they see. It's uncomfortable for them and hard on the bag. So, keep the stand as it is but - It needs another grab handle on the top of the bag to facilitate easy two-handed handling - like many of the other smaller duffles."

"The luggage is terrific. It does everything the company says. The design is great. However, the reason I'm writing is because we just came back from a recent trip and noticed a corner was ripped, and a zipper was damaged. I spent 5 minutes on chat with customer service providing them the information they could use to find our order. No hassle, no nonsense ... They're replacing it. Companies that live up to their word are very, very rare. We just became eBag customers for life. BTW ... We have several other pieces and have never had the slightest problem. GREAT products!!"
