Detailed Product Description

Tough Lightweight Smart – TLS truly defines the new Mother Lode series. We've completely re-designed our best selling wheeled duffels and added new features and innovative functionality and performance without added weight. If you're looking for outstanding design, style, and function, you'll find it in the TLS Mother Lode series.

Designer Notes

When we set out to design the TLS Mother Lode wheeled duffels, we first turned to the experts – our Customers. Combing through thousands of testimonials, our goals were to identify the most (and least) loved parts of the bag, what were the key missing features, and what was the over arching mood of our customer. After 12+ months of development, we're confident the TLS collection will exceed your expectations. We kept the best parts of the orig. Mother Lode: Moveable shelves, double/single cavity conversion, long handles, and a bag that will stand upright. We added a number of new features: add-a-bag strap, expandability, compression straps, more zippered pockets, a flexible bottom compartment, an innovative patent-pending backbone for rigidity, and beautiful fabric. Enjoy! Bernard

"I am writing this review from Dulles International airport. This is my second weeklong international trip using the Mother Lode TLS Mini 21". Let me start by saying that I can be a rather OCD shopper. In addition to this bag, I also bought a Travelpro Crew 9 and a LuggageWorks Aurora 22. I packed each and compared style and quality. Based on reviews and visible quality I quickly eliminated the Travelpro, leaving the LuggageWorks and the Mother Lode. Based on looks, the Mother Lode won hands down. It is a sharp bag. I even received compliments in the security line at Heathrow. On quality, it was a draw. Both the Mother Lode and the LuggageWorks looked very good in the key components of wheels, telescoping handle and zippers. Actually, the wheels and zippers seemed marginally better on the LuggageWorks. The LuggageWorks was a bit bigger and could hold a fair bit more than the Mother Lode but that was also a negative for me. My objective was to carry five days worth in the smallest bag possible for ease of travel and fit in all overhead compartments. For this the Mother Lode scored high. I was actually able to load: 2 pairs dress pants 1 Pair jeans 1 blazer 5 dress shirts 5 unmentionables 5 dress socks 1 belt 1 shorts 2 T-shirts 2 workout unmentionables 2 workout socks 1 Jawbone Jambox 1 Pair dress shoes 1 Pair sneakers All this WITHOUT using the available expansion. Not too shabby! Since I travel to Europe often, I typically arrive in the morning, take a shower at the airport lounge and head straight to the office. I love the way I can load my first days requirements in the top compartment which is accessible via the front of the bag without opening it up. I also keep my toiletries there which makes getting through security a breeze. It's too early to talk about durability but from what I've seen so far, I have high hopes for this bag. Finally, my experienc dealing with eBags has been exemplary."

"I took this bag on an 8-day business trip to Hong Kong and China. I planned to do laundry once during the trip, and packed accordingly. As it turned out, I could have packed enough clothing for the entire trip without doing laundry, and still would have had enough room to bring back the few obligatory gifts and trinkets that I purchased while there. The bag is great. I kept my passport, camera, and earplugs (for the flights) in the little upper front compartment for easy and quick access, even with the bag in the airplane overhead bins. The larger front compartment contained my baggie of fluids, which was also very easy to access while going through security. I used the divider inside to make compartments for a pair of shoes on one side and for clothing on the other. The top front compartment has a small strap with a quick-clip that I used to attach my laptop case handle so that it would hang down across the front of the bag while wheeling them around. This is extremely convenient because it lowers the center of gravity of the combined bag and laptop so that there is very little weight on your hand from the handle. Also, the extendable handle can be locked into position at three different lengths, which allows you to adjust the balance point for best comfort and maneuverability. I found it helpful and easy to adjust the length for different situations, such as when on escalators or ramps. Finally, the bag also rolls very nicely when pushed. All told, I am very happy with this bag, and I'm thinking of buying another one for my wife."

"I AM HOOKED! I took the Mother Lode TLS 21 to CA in February for 10 days with a carry-on (no checked luggage), and actually had 3 friends purchase it after they saw how much it held and how organized it was. I bought my husband the 21 duffle with wheels after reading the reviews that it might be a better choice for a guy, and we both just returned from 10 days in Europe with just just our e-Bags and a carry-on and we were thrilled not to have to wait for our luggage We didn't even wear everything we packed!. Now 3 more friends have purchased this for their future travels. I read all the reviews before I bought this and they were all correct. This is a wonderful bag. 5 stars!! Thank you eBags for designing and manufacturing such a perfect piece of luggage."

"I travel about two to three times a month, mostly US domestic, occasionally international. This bag has been my constant companion on every trip. It rolls smoothly without any noise. It is very easy to pack, I usually use pack-it pouches for shirts and underwear and will often carry running shoes to use in exercise rooms at hotels. It will swallow all this as 3-4 days worth easily, and I have yet to use the expansion function. I love having the integral add-a-bag strap it is amazing more bags don't incorporate this feature. eBags really stand by their product: I had the bag in blue, which started to show scuff-marks from baggage handling (I have to use use regional airlines a lot, which require you to gate check) when I called eBags, they let me exchange it for a black version. I really recommend this bag for the casual or business traveler."

"This is the 4th roller bag design that I have carried in my 11 years of flying. It is by far my favorite. It is a little bit smaller than every other bag I've had, even other 21" bags. This one fits lengthwise in the overhead bin of a 737-800 aircraft. Even in the first bin (which is about an inch shorter than the rest of the aircraft). Being able to slide this bag into a small spot in the overhead bin is key! With that said, this bag still holds the same amount of items that I have always carried in my luggage, even my bigger bags. This bag is just well organized with it's two main compartments. I put all of my clothing in one side of the bag and all other items in the other half. This bag doesn't tip over when it's top heavy. It has a bar to prevent that. It is expandable. Most bags that expand WILL NOT fit in a overhead bin once filled to capacity. While I haven't used the expansion, it appears that it might still fit if expanded."

"I bought this bag to take on a business trip. My wife accompanied me... and co-opted the bag, leaving me with our other, similarly sized carry-on from another company. ¿ We traveled six weeks across Europe by car, and this was her only bag aside from a small computer backpack for her netbook, Kindle, etc. The separate compartments make it easy to keep track of things. She especially liked that because the clean/dirty clothes ratio changed each day; so the compartments--and the mesh cover in one place--enabled her to keep the two separated. ¿ The outside of the bag could use some cleaning, but that's not a surprise considering that it was taken in and out of a car--in some pretty dusty areas--at least 90 times, and that it was in the back with two kids' bags and mine as well. Despite the heavy usage, there were no defects in the wheels or zippers. It rolled smoothly. ¿ While not knowing I was secretly keeping track of her comments on the bag, she gave an unsolicited bit of feedback about the fabric handle at the top of the bag automatically retracts into the bag. She likes that it does that--hiding it away unlike other bags where that handle sticks up, BUT at the same time she noted that because of the retraction it was not always easy to grab. She even said this was a tiny thing, and since it was her only critical comment, I'd say she is delighted. ¿ I'm looking forward to taking it on my next trip where I go ALONE--so that I can experience it for myself."

"This is our fourth mother lode. We have 3 others we bought 4 years ago. We originally bought them for an extended trip to Europe. My daughter and I used two again this past summer for a month long trip to Europe. My husband uses his for travel as a national salesman. They really have been fabulous suitcases. The wheels have tackled cobblestone streets, train tracks, and the many stairs going up and down in the London underground. One of the best features is they never fall over! They turn easily as well. The 21 inch fits in overhead compartments on most planes. I even carried mine on to Europe! Yes, I got 4 weeks of clothing into the 21 inch! One of our older suitcases is starting to show some wear in the stitching and the light green shows the dirt. I recommend the blue or the new purple which we just bought. I don't normally write reviews but I do read others. This is a product I highly recommend and know you won't be disappointed, as I said this is my 4 th Mother Lode!!!"

"I just purchased the bag to take on a 5 day trip to the west coast. I wanted a bag that I could carry on, but could fit everything I needed for my trip. This bag was perfect. It fit all my clothes, a pair of shoes and my cosmetics. The bag expands, but also is soft on top so it fits well aboard the airplane. I also like all the little pockets to organize different items. As a graphic designer I appreciate good design. My husband often teases me about picking things for form over function however, on this bag I get both."

"I bought this bag mainly due to the lifetime warranty classification. I honestly had my doubts that they would come through on the warranty. But, was willing to try since I travel weekly and had two cheaper bags trashed by the airline within months of each other. This bag is very functional and has really held up! Bought it in Feb 2011 and Dec 2012 airline finally managed to rip the font pocket zipper open and ruin the front pocket. One 2 minute call to ebags to explain, and yes covered under warranty and new bag on it's way. Wonderful service, promise kept, replacement bag on it's way. I look to ebags for all my needs and recommend to all my co-workers and family."

"This bag is so well-organized. I packed it for a ten-day stay to a winter location and it was fine for the trip! I had room for an extra pair of shoes, loads of cosmetics, hair dryer, curling iron...all the girly stuff. I even had a pair of jeans, another change of pants, and at least 5 tops. i used a space-saving bag that sucks the air out and all fit beautifully. It was my first time to bring just carry-on for such a long trip since I traveled to Europe many years ago. I was nervous about having enough to make my trip enjoyable. No problem there....I still did not wear all that I brought! It is a delight to wheel around in the airport...stable as it sits upright and the front compartment make your Bin Laden bag (TSA required gels and liquids) easy to get to. I also attached my purse to the top and was eased of carrying that around during layovers and plane changes. Buy this bag. My husband also got one and we are both thrilled. I got some black marks from the shuttle bus and when I got to the hotel, I wiped it off with soapy water and there is no trace of the marks. Awesome!"
