Product Features

  • True to the TLS series, there are a number of innovative interior and exterior features:
  • A fully padded and lockable laptop compartment - completely isolated from the contents of the pack. Easy access via an “L”-zip opening. Fits laptops as large as 1.5” thick x 12.25" wide x 16.5" tall (17.5" tall with the secondary pad removed)
  • Top-load tablet pocket is fleece-lined for automatic glass cleaning, measures 8-1/8” wide x 11.5” tall, lays flat between the main and laptop compartment, and is lockable
  • An organizer that keeps you organized. We’ve eliminated any chance of stuff piling up at the bottom of the compartment by creating a 2-dimensional workspace free of clutter
  • Three zippered “See What’s Where” mesh pockets
  • Two business card pockets
  • Two elastic pen loops plus one hidden pen pocket
  • One elastic-trimmed pouch pocket
  • UPDATE: Two zippered pockets (one includes our key leash). 2nd zipper based on customer input
  • A crush-proof AC-Adapter garage that isolates heavy (or fragile) accessories from the rest of the pack. Positioned at the bottom for better load balancing. Removable for those times when you need extra storage capacity
  • Easy access middle compartment via an “L”-zip opening. A 4” deep shelf across the bottom provides a rigid flat surface for binders/folders/books without the classic “diaper butt” posture of most backpacks. 13” max height. Easily holds a 3” wide 3-ring binder. Because of the tapered shape of the pack, the compartment does become narrower at the top. When you need to pack a lot of volume, remove the AC Adapter garage, fold down the shelf, and take full advantage of the 12.25” width & 17.25” height
  • UPDATE: Diagonal slash pocket inside the middle compartment to help organize loose papers and folders. Added based on customer input
  • Vertical zippered “Napoleon” pocket on the face is perfect for boarding passes and will not “walk open” no matter how long your journey
  • Low profile top and side grab handles
  • Contoured backpack straps are generously padded with Airmesh
  • UPDATE: Adjustable/removable shock-loaded sternum straps have been added based on customer input
  • Zippered side-mounted water bottle pocket
  • Luggage handle pass-through panel on the back allow you to stack the TLS Slim on your favorite suitcase both vertically or horizontally. UPDATE: The vertical orientation change was based on customer input
  • Airmesh back panel is fully vented and well padded in all the right places
  • Lockable D-rings on primary zippers discourage tampering and keep luggage locks in a consistent location
  • Self-repairing YKK RC zippers use lockable double sliders on almost all openings.
  • Discrete photo-reflective zipper cords for nighttime safety
  • High-visibility 210D orange nylon lining makes finding your stuff a lot easier
  • 840 x 900D Twisted Filament Polyester exterior

Detailed Product Description

Corporate Casual meets Professional. We’ve taken a different point of view when it comes to a laptop backpack. Gone are the bungee cords, exterior mesh pockets, carabineer clips, and all of the other outdoor/sports bling that has no place in a professional setting. The TLS Professional Slim Laptop Backpack features an all-black dress code that doesn’t look out of place in an office setting despite being a backpack. Isolated rapid-access compartments protect your laptop, iPad or tablet, sequester your printed materials, force you to be neat & organized by eliminating clutter zones, in a package that defies its published cubic inch capacity. It’s like turbo charging a compact car. Buckle up – it’s going to be a great ride!

Designer Notes

Almost two years of relentless tweaking went in to getting this backpack ready for prime time. There are lots of unique features that we know you’ll love – like the AC Adapter Garage that preserves storage space regardless of what’s packed above (thanks to our super-cool compression molded box and fold-down mezzanine in the book compartment) plus effortless access to your laptop & documents via wide L-zip openings. We’re really proud of this addition to the TLS family and hope you agree. Enjoy!

"I was delighted a few weeks back to see that eBags finally offered a slim backpack that avoided the slouching problem so common with large backpacks. I have the TLS Workstation backpack and love it for long trips overseas, but for daily walks to work, the TLS Professional Slim is much better. The organizing compartment has all the hallmarks of a TLS backpack with exquisite organizing pockets. I like the increased use of zippered mesh pockets rather than open pockets. Things are more secure. One of the main reasons I bought the TLS Workstation was the "overhead" removable compartment for all my Mac accessories and power brick. That they moved that to the bottom AND made it zipper accessible makes this bag even better. The laptop compartment is large and can easily hold a 15in laptop. I have a ultraportable and I can fit it easily with some papers and a small umbrella. The storage compartment is large enough to hold papers, lunch, etc, but not overly large. But the most significant and welcome improvement is the addition of a dedicated iPad/tablet pocket. I use my iPad more than any other device and love having it so accessible yet isolated in its own space, where it is protected. One improvement that could be added is a sternum strap. I added one from Timbuk2 for three bucks. Even though the bag isn't designed to hold heavy things, a sternum strap is great to have to keep the straps from riding up under one's underarms while walking. Overall it is an excellent bag. I still use my Workstation on long-haul travel, but this is excellent for daily use. Designer Note: Sternum straps are now included thanks to this customer's comment. If you own the backpack from the initial production run, contact Customer Care and they will send you sternum straps at no charge."

"Great laptop pack. The medium size and non-sporty look of this bag (no protruding pockets, bright cords or carabiners) highlights its business intent. Having a dedicated laptop and tablet compartment is great for protecting my expensive gear. I especially like the equipment garage! Why has it taken so long for someone to figure "garage" style out. It's excellent! It allows me to store all of my bulky cords, plugs, back-up battery charger and "mifi-wifi" without cluttering up the main storage compartments. An upgrade that would be beneficial would be to make the TLS Professional Slim Laptop Backpack a convertible bag; add a shoulder strap and provide the ability to hide the pack straps. A "hybrid" bag would allow ease of carrying in both less or more formal business setting. eBags, keep innovating!"

"Overall, I'm pleased with the bag. It looks like it belongs in business (not overly flashy or outdoor-ready). The organization panel is what you would expect from the rest of the TLS line, and the orange lining makes it very easy to find things. (And finally having a place to keep my ID badge when I'm not in my building equals fewer trips to security for a temp badge.) The equipment garage is a wonderful addition, providing a home for all of my cables and other gadget accouterments. The dedicated tablet slip is a nice touch, too. I was a little surprised that the main compartment and computer storage areas have half-zip access (Top and Side), but after using the bag, this doesn't really slow me down, and it keeps me from stuffing unnecessary items. There's plenty of room for my everyday carry items: lightweight pullover, umbrella, journal, folder, and papers. The computer compartment is very roomy, but there isn't any sort of suspension system for smaller laptops in the space. I don't fear for my machine when I'm carrying the pack, but it some might be concerned that there is a one-size-fits-all space back there. A smaller laptop can slide around a little bit. The straps and padding feel nice when I'm walking from my car into work, and the two grab handles (top and side) make it easy to move the pack around. I'm pleased with the features included with this bag, especially at this price point, and I'd recommend it to anyone who prefers a backpack-style without the bulk and disorganization that is typically associated with laptop backpacks."

"I love the low profile of this bag. It fits easily under the seat when I fly (weekly) and is large enough to hold what I need. Great organization in the front pocket and I love the tablet slot. Overall a great bag."

"Full disclosure, I work at eBags. However, this affords the opportunity to try A LOT of business bags (I own at least 20 of them). This one has traveled with me on planes, trains, and automobiles and it is a keeper. Feels great on my back and slides nicely over the handle on my carry-on. When at my feet in meetings and on trains, everything is easy access. It stands up well against bags twice the cost. We put a great deal of care and thought into all of our bags, but this one really shines for me."

"I'm a big fan of the Briggs & Riley products, owning several pieces. I really wanted their new Verb backpack, and ordered it along with this eBags TLS Slim model. I ended up, much to my surprise, keeping the eBags unit. It had better space, and gave me the ability to carry what I needed in a manner that works. It's comfortable to carry loaded, and plenty of room to pick up stuff along the way. My only complaint so far is that it tends to fall forward when setting it down. Expected when the computer is out, but not so much when full. Best feature? The middle iPad/tablet pocket. Great and easy access to the tool I find myself using the most these days."

"Very frequent traveler 50-80 business travel on avg. so use of my bags are normally very intense. I was sold on this bag by the video. It did, however, appear larger in the video than it really is in hand, so the camera must add 10 lbs. The video was very accurate and what you see is what you get. I have always used Incase brand bags, and a very big fan of their design, but they quit making some of my favorite styles, and the last bag I purchased from Incase was not able to hold up to my travel demands and the organization that I need. I eyed the Tumi Network bag, but just could not bring myself to drop the $$$ on a bag I may replace every year or two. So, I shopped around and found this one. PROS: **doesn't slouch - stiff bag, very thick outer shell, very tough exterior **zippers are great - you can tell the quality **light - bag much lighter than expected **cord garage - best invention ever, perfect catch **all..would like to see it slightly larger **easy - SUPER easy access to laptop section (I use a Lenovo T510 - pretty large pc) **pretty decent overall storage **very well made bag - you can tell the high quality **handles - retract, very cool, comfy and tough CONS: **tablet storage compartment just a bit too small - does not zip open wide enough. I have my iPad in a case, so it's a bit tough to get in / out...an extra 1" on the zipper would have been enough **storage on front is too flat. There needs to be deeper storage pockets for plugs / cords **to elaborate on above - the storage garage could be larger to fit more cables and misc **water bottle side zipper - just too small, tried to use once...needs to be several inches "higher" or deeper pocket **a couple more small zipper pockets, maybe on back under padding...always nice to have a small additional easy accessible storage to throw expense receipts and misc while traveling **shoulder straps could be better design, thicker Overall, nice, well made bag would recommend 9 out of 10"

"This bag offer great versatility in a slim design . I currently use this to transport my laptop and sometimes my iPad to/from work. Some days I ride a motorcycle to work and slim aerodynamic design is perfect for stability on a bike. The bag is well constructed. Zippers function smoothly and compartments are easy to access. I have to use other features like slip through area for a handle on your luggage but expect like all ebag products it will be sturdy and well though out. I am very happy with this bag and plan to use for short business or personal travel along with my eBags Motherlode luggage"

"I bought this bag to be used on vacation to Disney World and as my daily work bag afterwards. I take the train daily to work and am overall very happy with my purchase. I'd just like to highlight a few points. PROS: 1.) This bag WILL fit under the seat of a plane. I used it as my personal item and didn't have any problems storing it in the seat in front of me. 2.) The crushproof garage was perfect for storing my custom wooden engagement ring box that I carried with me through the parks for four days. The bag was tossed around on the floor during the rides and the box remained undamaged. 3.) The side grab handle really came in handy on the plane when picking the bag up from under the seat in front of me. 4.) Although slightly awkward at first, the L-Zip opening worked well enough and did not hinder me from putting in or taking out my items. 5.) Back panel was very comfortable. 6.) Mesh pockets were very convenient as well. 7.) Napoleon pocket was easy to access for me. CONS: 1.) This is not what I would consider a "Slim" backpack and don't believe it should be advertised as such. I stored a laptop, iPad, and little else, and the backpack proved to be of average size at best. 2.) The elastic on the water bottle pocket could have been stronger. It may have been just my actions, but leaning over slightly always resulted it my drink falling out. I stopped using it the third time this happened to me. 3.) At times, I threw a large DSLR we brought with us in the bag and it became VERY uncomfortable - even when I separated the lens from the body. The bag doesn't seem meant to store anything large and oddly shaped. Compartment space is a little tight. Overall though, I feel very happy with this bag. I'm now using it to commute daily on the train to my job in downtown Chicago (lugging around a 14" Dell E6420) and the bag has proven to be my favorite. If you primary needs are to carry a laptop, tablet, and a few documents or books, then this is the perfect bag."

"I use this backpack daily to transport all my stuff to and from work. I have an iPad and a Surface so I use the laptop section for an umbrella and paperwork. The tablet pocket and it's top-loading access is AWESOME, the front organization panel is well designed and holds everything I need. One of my favorite things is the cord "garage", absolute genius. My only recommendations would be to expand the size of the water bottle pocket as it is a bit too small and earbud/headphone access as well as a pocket for a phone/iPod would be a nice addition. I am a bit bummed to see now that if I had waited to purchase, I could've saved 20 bucks."
