"I writing on behalf of my 13 yr old son who thoroughly researched this item. He attends a middle school that chose to forgo lockers for technology, so all of the students look like Sherpas with all of their belonging in their backpacks. Last year we purchased a widely recognized sports name brand backpack that was so poorly constructed it fell apart mid-way through the school year. It is only the beginning of the academic year, but he's really happy with the compartments, storage and sturdiness of this backpack! When his younger brother goes to the same school next year I'll purchase a High Sierra."

"It holds my laptop, my kindle and four college text books along with notebooks and pens. It feels much lighter than any backpack I have ever seen, truly awesome."

"I checked out a lot of packs before selecting the Swerve, and I'm very happy with it. I take long flights very often and wanted a pack with good organization that would fit under an airline seat but still carry my laptop, power cord, a change of clothes, cell phones, camera, book, water bottle, and other miscellaneous stuff. The Swerve does this very nicely and looks good doing it. Very comfortable shoulder straps (I usually use one strap at a time, like a sling). Two features I especially like: 1) the rear zipper is great for airport security... just unzip it and your laptop is easily extracted from its padded sleeve (and just as easily replaced) without affecting your clothes or other stuff; 2) it has a small top pocket that's great for quick access to small items as well as internal organizing pockets that are built high up in the pack. This helps reduce a universal problem with packs: your stuff tends to settle in the bottom of every compartment, making it harder to get to and making the pack bulge at the bottom while being empty up top. The more even top-to-bottom distribution in the Swerve is what keeps it thin enough to fit under an airline seat even when fully loaded. Other manufacturers should take note and start designing their pack compartments this way. At this price you're not going to get Tumi or Victorinox build quailty and durability, but it's certainly adequate for my needs. If you beat a pack up every day, this one might not last more than a year. But on the trips I've taken with the Swerve, it hasn't given me even the slightest problem."

"This is the second time I've bought a book bag from High Sierra and it is very useful and has a long duration. I have my old one still and I use it during my off days. It is a big book bag and can hold a laptop, two textbook and a few notebooks. The Straps are strong and you feel supported by them and the nice cushion inside feels great against your back. If you are a college student like me, I suggest this stylish backpack. It doesn't look to bland like some can but it gives you all the space and support you need. Plus is has some pretty good compartments!"

"very nice bag with lots of pockets and organization. I liked the notebook sleeve as it is well-designed... with side velcro straps to adjust to your laptop's size (max width: 12" wide), if your computer is longer than 14.5" there will be approx 2" outside of the sleeve protection... however, the strap to keep the computer secure can be adjusted. It is perfect for an average-sized body frame person."

"I originally bought an OGIO Fugitive bag, but did not like the fact that it only had one main pocket for my gear. I ride my motorcycle to work most days, and need a place to store my spare facesheild and the rest of my gear. Took that one back and bought this instead, was about $10 less on the price. Like the colors and the reflective strips on the back for riding at night. Can fit my laptop, gear, change of clothes and two water bottles in the side pouches as well. Plenty of room and ability to separate items from each other (wet-dry), etc. Long straps makes getting it on and off over my jacket a snap and the shoulder straps stay put and don’t slide around. The addition of the cell phone pocket on the left strap is a nice thought, but given where it sits on my shoulders, I don’t see me using it for anything. The wait strap tucks nicely into the back pad and does not fall out. Overall I am very pleased with this and bag feels well made and should last a good while."

"I take this backpack with me daily to my medical school lectures. It's extremely comfortable, can hold a fair amount of material, has a nice laptop pad (but make sure your laptop can fit in it, my Inspiron1420 with a 9-cell battery sticking out of it fits well, but a 1520 or bigger might be snug), and all the subpockets are great to organize my stuff by a need-to-access basis (ex: my keys and cell phone stay in the top compartment within easy reach). The straps have heavy duty stretchy material and lots of cushion. One thing though...despite what the picture shows, the gray backpack is not gray and red-orange, it's gray and bright orange, almost neon. So don't buy it if that bothers you and you want a muted reddish tone. I still thing it's a nice design and not overdone."

"It's got numerous pockets for organization--in fact, a few too many for me. I had a hard time remembering which zippered compartment I'd used to put things in. I also think the main compartment should have had a wider opening--its very hard to get my laptop in/out. As annoying as the pockets can be, I'd still rather have too many pockets than too few. The bag sits well on my shoulders/back even with a heavy load and doesn't look too silly. overall, it's a good student backpack--but not spectacular"

"I took my laptop with me to class a couple times, carrying it in a standard laptop bag along with my backpack. It was after this experience that I knew I would never want to bring my laptop with me to class if I didn't find a way to carry it in my backpack. So I found out about eBags and saw that there was a whole section just for laptop backpacks, which I wasn't even sure existed! The features that I like best about this bag is the super padded laptop slot that I know will protect my computer well. I also love the portable music player pocket with a headphone port and the many other pockets. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but to give an overview of the zippers: The two in the very back access the same pocket, but the furthest back makes it easier to take the laptop in and out when the bag is packed full; The third zipper is for a small, fuzzy-lined pocket for I think a Palm Pilot or something small. It dangles down inside the back pocket; the fourth zipper is for the second main pocket; The fifth zipper is for a small-ER pocket, but it's still almost as tall as the main pockets, and it contains the music player pocket; The sixth zipper is where the organizer is. This organizer is very nice and well-made. There's plenty of slots for floppy discs, and two large pen/pencil holders (large enough for a highlighter). Another thing about all those zippers, they're monstrous! These things will never break, they're super heavy duty (definitely not in an unattractive way, however). This bag is very comfortable, as well. It's also obvious that it is very well-made, with quality materials. One thing that may throw you off, though is that I expected the Spring color to be more yellow than green and when I got it, I was surprised to see that it's actually lime green. Still a pretty color, though. Anyways, this bag looks great, will protect your computer, is very well organized, and it seems like it will hold up wonderfully."

"I am a college student who is a) always carrying a laptop and textbooks, b) loves a ton of compartments, and c) unhealthily meticulous about browsing and reviewing all the options for a product before making a final selection. So, it was a great surprise when, after spending hours browsing for a perfect laptop backpack, I found myself ultimately picking the quasi off-brand High Sierra Swerve at only $55. It had all my little requests: a cell phone pocket on the strap, water bottle holders, lots of compartments, and, an added bonus: it came in purple, my favorite color. When I received the backpack, there were a couple of key differences from the site when I opened the box: for one, the color is way off (for amethyst-charcoal) it's more of a bright magenta than a dark purple (I've still gotten multiple comments on how nice it looks and I like it myself, but it was still a bit of a shock), and the cell phone pocket on the strap is a mesh pouch rather than a pocket-flap, which makes it harder to pull out the phone and thus a bit counter-intuitive. Otherwise, however, its Just As Advertised: big, but not bulky (the design goes vertical instead of horizontal, which is great the straps at the side also help), and tons of little pockets and compartments. While the laptop padding isn't as thick as Id prefer, there are straps inside that keep it very snug so that its safe from bouncing around the laptop-specific zipper is also very convenient. My only complaints would be that there isn't a dedicated pocket for a laptop power adapter, so its bulk sticks into the other sections and makes it harder to arrange things there, and that the mp3-player pocket is an open pouch inside of a bigger compartment not secure at all. Dont get me wrong, though: I do think I made the perfect choice, which means a lot coming from critical ol me. The weight that used to kill my shoulder now feels like practically nothing and I can always find what I need. I absolutely love my Swerve! 3"
