"I writing on behalf of my 13 yr old son who thoroughly researched this item. He attends a middle school that chose to forgo lockers for technology, so all of the students look like Sherpas with all of their belonging in their backpacks. Last year we purchased a widely recognized sports name brand backpack that was so poorly constructed it fell apart mid-way through the school year. It is only the beginning of the academic year, but he's really happy with the compartments, storage and sturdiness of this backpack! When his younger brother goes to the same school next year I'll purchase a High Sierra."

"It holds my laptop, my kindle and four college text books along with notebooks and pens. It feels much lighter than any backpack I have ever seen, truly awesome."

"This is the second time I've bought a book bag from High Sierra and it is very useful and has a long duration. I have my old one still and I use it during my off days. It is a big book bag and can hold a laptop, two textbook and a few notebooks. The Straps are strong and you feel supported by them and the nice cushion inside feels great against your back. If you are a college student like me, I suggest this stylish backpack. It doesn't look to bland like some can but it gives you all the space and support you need. Plus is has some pretty good compartments!"

"I checked out a lot of packs before selecting the Swerve, and I'm very happy with it. I take long flights very often and wanted a pack with good organization that would fit under an airline seat but still carry my laptop, power cord, a change of clothes, cell phones, camera, book, water bottle, and other miscellaneous stuff. The Swerve does this very nicely and looks good doing it. Very comfortable shoulder straps (I usually use one strap at a time, like a sling). Two features I especially like: 1) the rear zipper is great for airport security... just unzip it and your laptop is easily extracted from its padded sleeve (and just as easily replaced) without affecting your clothes or other stuff; 2) it has a small top pocket that's great for quick access to small items as well as internal organizing pockets that are built high up in the pack. This helps reduce a universal problem with packs: your stuff tends to settle in the bottom of every compartment, making it harder to get to and making the pack bulge at the bottom while being empty up top. The more even top-to-bottom distribution in the Swerve is what keeps it thin enough to fit under an airline seat even when fully loaded. Other manufacturers should take note and start designing their pack compartments this way. At this price you're not going to get Tumi or Victorinox build quailty and durability, but it's certainly adequate for my needs. If you beat a pack up every day, this one might not last more than a year. But on the trips I've taken with the Swerve, it hasn't given me even the slightest problem."

"very nice bag with lots of pockets and organization. I liked the notebook sleeve as it is well-designed... with side velcro straps to adjust to your laptop's size (max width: 12" wide), if your computer is longer than 14.5" there will be approx 2" outside of the sleeve protection... however, the strap to keep the computer secure can be adjusted. It is perfect for an average-sized body frame person."

"This High Sierra Swerve was purchased as a replacement for my previous backpack (Pakuma Akara K2). I have used the Swerve for about a month now and I can say it is an excellent bag. ** Laptop: It has no problems holding something like a Thinkpad T60 WITH an extended battery (which makes the laptop wider). The laptop sleeve (on the semi-rigid back panel) is separated by a bit of space from the bottom of the backpack (which is also padded). This helps in protecting your laptop when you set it down as long as still exercise some prudence. The 2nd zipper access for the laptop compartment will come in handy when traveling. ** Storage: I like the fact that it has a lot of compartments. Two outside elastic nets perfect for water bottles, or damp umbrellas after a rainshower. The small velour-lined pocket on top is really convenient for something like my eyeglasses case, no need to dig around. ** Appearance: It has subtle reflective piping which is nice. I favor orange in general, and the Swerve in orange ("charcoal/chipotle/black") has worked out well. Just be advised the orange is lighter and more vibrant than pictured (Discover Card orange comes close). ** Handling: For the amount of things it can hold, it is also easy to handle while commuting on the subway, and it does not look like a laptop bag which is a plus. The top grab handle is well padded and feels solid. Suspension straps are really nice. Not sure if I'd ever use the waist strap, but I would have preferred a cross-chest strap like my old Pakuma. Maybe High Sierra can make the thumb-ring pulls double as chest straps. Only downside I can name thus far is I wish the bag was slightly lighter. Overall a big thumbs up."

"This backpack is great for college. I usually carry one large book, two binders and a few notebooks. Even when the backpack is pretty full, it doesn't feel horribly heavy on my shoulders and back. The quality for the price is excellent"

"I purchased this about a year ago to use as a carry-on for my young daughters gear on airplanes during cross-country and international flights--a regular diaper bag would not hold the amount of diapers, wipes, food, books and toys that we would need to make it through a long trip. I love the look of the bag and that it holds a lot in a lot of different sections--it gets very bulky, but then again, I was carrying a lot of bulky gear in it. That said, while I definitely put a lot in the bag, it was not over stuffed, but very early in its use the zippers on the main compartment would split, one of the most annoying things that can happen with a backpack. It now happens frequently and is more and more difficult to fix each time. If the bag had been in use for several years, or if I had overstuffed it more than once, I might have more patience, but I am now reluctant to use the bag out of fear that the zippers will split and stuff will fall out while I'm also trying to manage a toddler, a stroller, and other baggage. I feel very torn--the organization is perfect for our needs, but the quality, at least of the zippers, has been under par."

"This bag has a lot of room. I have to carry books for three different classes, binders, and a laptop. Everything fits in this bag. The straps make this bag comfortable to wear on the walk around campus. I have two small complaints though. One, the zippers look and feel cheap. They are large and plastic like. The second is the stitching on the straps have started to come undone. I am not sure if it is because something pulled at the strings or if it is just a poor job of stitching. Neither of these problems effect the bag at all."

"Really a wonderful backpack. Very spacious, but not large on the back. Lots of compartments, including a very well-padded laptop area. Durable, comfortable (well-padded, good balance), well-constructed. I looked at several other backpacks and I couldn't be more pleased I chose this one."

"I am a college student who is a) always carrying a laptop and textbooks, b) loves a ton of compartments, and c) unhealthily meticulous about browsing and reviewing all the options for a product before making a final selection. So, it was a great surprise when, after spending hours browsing for a perfect laptop backpack, I found myself ultimately picking the quasi off-brand High Sierra Swerve at only $55. It had all my little requests: a cell phone pocket on the strap, water bottle holders, lots of compartments, and, an added bonus: it came in purple, my favorite color. When I received the backpack, there were a couple of key differences from the site when I opened the box: for one, the color is way off (for amethyst-charcoal) it's more of a bright magenta than a dark purple (I've still gotten multiple comments on how nice it looks and I like it myself, but it was still a bit of a shock), and the cell phone pocket on the strap is a mesh pouch rather than a pocket-flap, which makes it harder to pull out the phone and thus a bit counter-intuitive. Otherwise, however, its Just As Advertised: big, but not bulky (the design goes vertical instead of horizontal, which is great the straps at the side also help), and tons of little pockets and compartments. While the laptop padding isn't as thick as Id prefer, there are straps inside that keep it very snug so that its safe from bouncing around the laptop-specific zipper is also very convenient. My only complaints would be that there isn't a dedicated pocket for a laptop power adapter, so its bulk sticks into the other sections and makes it harder to arrange things there, and that the mp3-player pocket is an open pouch inside of a bigger compartment not secure at all. Dont get me wrong, though: I do think I made the perfect choice, which means a lot coming from critical ol me. The weight that used to kill my shoulder now feels like practically nothing and I can always find what I need. I absolutely love my Swerve! 3"
