"Bought this as a bug-out-bag. Organization is great. Once loaded the expansion straps make the load very stable."

"I've searched high and low for a perfect backpack that would suit my needs as an extensive but minimalist traveller (so I'd like to believe) and I'm happy to have come across Kelty Redwing 44. Just the perfect size to pass as carry-on and the front load system topped with spacious main compartment makes it a joy to use. Needless to say, the pockets and mesh water bottle holders are very useful too. I can pack one to two weeks worth of stuff here (I always stick to the minimum) and it's also very comfortable to use if you distribute the weight of your stuff in it correctly (I love the no-nonsense instructions manual that came with it). I'm positive I will get years of good service from this. However, be warned that the size is too big for urban commuting or for school and office use. For that, I would suggest getting one that holds around 30L (depending on what you want to stuff in there). This Kelty holds 44L, hence the name. Also, the one thing I wish was different would be the zipper handles. I wish they were "interlockable" like many of my Eagle Creek bags so I can at least discourage pickpockets at the sight of locked zippers. Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied with my first ever Kelty. I'm very picky with my backpacks and this one was love at first use. I'll try to come back here after many more user experience with the bag for an update."

"Used the Redwing to climb Half Dome. 20.8 miles roundtrip - 5,000 ft up (and down). The pack is well organized and carried everything I needed with room to spare - water, filter/pump, food, emergency gear, clothes, harnesses, etc. The Redwing can be packed lightly and compressed so that you hardly know it's there, yet is capable of easily carrying enough for a night or two backpack excursion. I heartily recommend this pack."

"Overall, the bag is great. It's a perfect combination of durability and functionality. I've lived out of the pack for 5 days in the mountains as easily as I carry my laptop and books to class in the brutal Madison Wisconsin winters. If you call yourself an outdoorsman, this is your bag. It looks good in town, looks great on the trail...and can handle everything in between. The straps are very comfortable along with the padded back plate, however all that padding does make for a sweaty back and shoulders on the trail. The detachable waist belt is a great addition as it greatly reduces the load weight when hiking, and can be easily removed when you go back to school. Plenty of storage and compression straps. My one complaint would be the fact that the mesh water bottle pockets tear very easily. Other than that, great pack!"

"The Redwing 44 is a great and comfortable backpack. I mainly use this backpack as a carry-on for traveling and it suits me well for it. You might want to check out the Redwing 50 if you want more space and volume."

"I bought the Redwing 50 for use as a carry-on bag to Guatemala. I packed all of my clothes for an eight day trip. It was a little heavy and bulky, but then I pack like the typical American: too much stuff. When I returned, I purchased a Redwing 44. I've only used it twice, but it is better suited for my purposes. Now my friend in Guatemala gets a Redwing 50, slightly used. The Redwing 44 is a great pack for short trips and works very well as a carry on bag. I'm looking for many years of service from this well made, and well designed bag."

"I love this pack, and it is the absolute perfect size. I haven't actually used it for anything outdoors ¿ I use it as a carry-on on planes. If you pack it really full you might have to squeeze it a bit to get it into an overhead bin, but I've flown internationally and domestically with it plenty of times and never had an issue. In fact, this bag is big enough that I went to Russia for 3 weeks with it, though I would only recommend that for light packers. Great bag, very durable, lots of zippers and pockets, perfectly sized and a usually at a very good price."

"Good bag for my purpose - a trip where I didn't want to bring a suitcase. I hardly feel the pack on my back given all of the support. Very nice for the price."

"Excellent backpack! Used this for a quick weekend in San Diego with my family, easily fits all our stuff (wife and 4 year old). The pack is light and is very comfortable even with a heavy load (#25). Excellent organization and the Java color is quite nice. I'm a recent convert of "one bag travel" and will soon try this in Hawaii in a few months."
