"This does make a good general purpose bag. Roomy and waterproof, but If your looking at this bag for serious bike commuting or messengering i'd look elswhere."

"USAGE: I use it to bike into work. I usually carry my 15 laptop, lunch, books/papers, lunch, and U-lock. That gets me to about 50 percent of max capacity, though carrying more would start to make things a little heavy. PROS: The bag is well balanced, easy to carry and hold a ton of stuff -- the inside is cavernous. The center brief case handle is a nice bonus, as is the back pocket. Also, the bag looks awesome. And Manhattan Portage bags last forever. CONS: Im not in love with the dual tall zipper pockets. They're fine for holding the various connectors and chargers that I don't use that often, but it would be a bit of a pain if I needed to use those daily. A divider for the interior might be nice too, but it's not essential. OVERALL: This is a great all around messenger bag. It's not perfect, but it's better than most. You get top quality without paying an outrageous price, which makes it a great value overall. I would highly recommend this bag."

"I used this bag to lug around a lot of audio and electronic equipment for field recording. It was the perfect size for carrying a laptop AND a bunch of other stuff (recorder, cables, mikes, disks, etc.) -- it is wide enough and tall enough for example to fit two laptops in their carrying cases with a little extra room at the end. The waterproofing let me not worry about being in the rain. There are several extra pockets of different sizes which were handy, but there is only one small interior pocket. I got several compliments on the olive color. The clasps and shoulder strap are extremely sturdy. A friend of mine immediately bought a similar (although smaller) bag from Manhattan Portage. I recommend this bag if you want something somewhat bigger than an ordinary day bag. It is heavier than a smaller bag, naturally, but the added weight is offset by its durability and waterproofing. The only thing I did not like was the large yellow tag on the top. It costs more than other bags but if it is what you need it is worth the money."

"I love the bag. My only complaint about it is its flap cover doesn't cover the whole bag when wearing it. I got this bag mainly because I could fit my laptop in it and I wanted to be able to shelter it from the rain, since I live in the sunshine state. When the flap is closed and you're wearing it, since the bag is big, the sides jut out making holes. But I would purchase another portage bag in the future. Oh yeah, the bag handle is starting to rip."

"This is my first experience with the Manhattan Portage brand, but have used many other messenger bags...Timbuk2, Chrome, R.E.LOAD (stolen). This bag gets used on the bicycle and or motorcycle daily, and from a first impression is good value...but not without some faults. Pros: -Well built and sturdy. -seems to be waterproof to a reasonable extent. -The yellow interior is nice for locating items in the bottom of the bag. -Has a lot of the features of bags costing twice as much, but... Cons: -The only real functional problem is the absence of some sort of "cross" strap to help keep the bag on your back. You don't need it all the time, but when you do, it's paramount. It would have been cheap for them to add one too. Go figure. -Small gripes: The pockets on the outside of the bag seem too deep for their openings, I think it would have worked better to have one large zipper opening to a big pocket with a center divider. Also, the small pocket on the outside flap is almost useless when the bag is loaded. Overall this bag is great (if you are walking) and like the idea of a shoulder (1 strap) bag...but if you want it for bicycle use, better be handy with a sewing machine to add in a stabilizing strap. I like that it's made here in the US, but for a few more bones so are the Chrome bags. Hope this helps"

"Love the pockets and the brown color is nice. The shoulder strap is unusable due to an unusable shoulder strap buckle. The size is okay. The back pocket and top handle are frustrating. The top flap does not completely cover the bag: rain gets into the main compartment. The logo is a crazy neon green. I wish I would have saved my money and bought beer instead of a new bag."

"To be frankly, I would have imagined a bigger bag when I first received this bag. Or you could order a large size. However, I think it is definitely enough for the daily use. I put my 15-inch widescreen sony laptop and 2 books and notebook and swimming gear in it. And it still have capacity to load my cell-phone, wallet, tissue papers and etc. In one word, even the medium size has enough room for your daily carries. But, I would expect it to be more organized. Moreover, if you need to carry the bag for day long, I would suggest you to carry low density things. Because I don't think it is good for your shoulder. In sum, it is a great practical bag with great looking, especially when you ride bike to commute."

"I love the big, roomy open area and the several zippered compartments. I would like to have had a slightly longer strap and I find the outside zippered pocket hard to get too."

"Bought this bag in conjunction with the manhattan portage camera insert. Wanted a bag big enough to carry my DSLR and few lenses (typically carry body with 1 - 2 prime and 1 zoom) but also wanted a bag that a) doesn't look like camera bag and b) can fit other random stuff in it (food, jacket, umbrella, etc). For that works well. I also thought that in principle I should be able to wear it while riding my bike, but haven't tried that yet."
