"Maxpedition quality is not questionable, its impeccable! That being said the Monsoon is a very specific use bag because it has very specific limitation due to its design. Here is a list of the limitations I found with this bag: 1. The single strap make moderate to heavy loads very uncomfortable over longer durations. 2. The teardrop shape reduces the amount of gear one can put in the pack vs a square pack. A 13" Laptop was pushing the limits of the pack. 3. The built in pockets and pouches are not located for ease of access, it takes a while to get at the contents of the main compartment. 4. The molle webbing on the front of the pack is too small for any add ons larger than 3x5 5. The waste belt / strap is in a pain in the butt, it should have a crossing sternum like maxpeds other slingers. On the up side there are some things about the bag that are really great: 1. The conceal carry / hydration pouch is perfectly placed to swing the pack from back to front for fast access. 2. When the pack is moderately heavy it is very comfortable to wear. 3. The water bottle pouch is super easy to access. I have been using this bag as my Every Day Carry bag for about 2 months on and off switching with a Maxped Pygmy Falcon II. The Pygmy II is a 2 strap backpack with all the right pockets, pouches, molle straps, and its comfortable under full loads. In conclusion I would not recommend the monsoon. the teardrop shape is too limiting. The squared off Maxped slings are a better choice. The monsoon would be ok to take to the gym or maybe an overnighter but the contents must be able to conform to the shape of the bag to make its full volume useful. Its a cool looking bag, but function must form and the monsoons form limits its ability to function."

"I pre-ordered one of these when they first came out and wasn't disappointed. It was my first Maxpedition purchase, and I ended up buying a Rat wallet for the belt, and a (discontinued) pouch that was a Barnacle next to a sheath. I put that one on the side opposite the water bottle. I found I needed to have more small/mid size item storage for the bag. It doesn't have a lot of mid size compartments, though the belt zip pouch is great for your wallet, and there is a nice zipper pouch on the inside. The concealed hydration pocket is very handy. The water bottle holder is one of the main reasons I got the bag (and the waiststrap). I put a camera pouch to the front strap and it is so comfortable taking it out in that position. I have hiked for 5-6 hours and not felt any soreness. Also, the compression strap system and front flap is ingenious. Carrying a Frisbee is essential to me so this works perfectly secured this way. You can still fit the jacket, and yet attach a pocket to the flap as well. You can have so many different load outs with this pack. I stuff oranges, water and heavy stuff inside the inner slip pocket. These weighty items end up riding perfectly on the small of my back, aided by the waistbelt which I wear snugly. The bag is very comfortable, though I have to tighten the shoulder strap nearly all the way. I use the waistbelt almost all the time, as there's usually more than a few pounds of gear, water, and food inside. When there aren't a lot of items inside I can cinch it down very small and tuck the waistbelt away. It looks spectacular. I got the black and I love it. I just bought an FR-1 for the inside and relocated the Rat to the FR-1. The Rat ended up getting in the way of my left arm when it was attached to the waistbelt. The Monsoon does not hold rectangular items as well as some other bags, but I found a Saunders slim case/clipboard that fits great and holds my essential music papers. You can stuff a surprising amount of gear in here with ease."

"The Monsoon Gearslinger is a winner! I bought this bag after researching something similar to a messenger bag with the strength of a regular bookbag. The bag has tons of pockets to store your things. The strap allows the bag to sit over your shoulder without pain that msgr bags sometimes cause. The latch also allows you to take the bag off easily and quickly, which is a problem with traditional bookbags. There is also a waist strap if you need extra security. The only downside to the bag is that it does not have as much space as I expected to have, but it is still more than enough to meet your everyday needs and then some. I would buy this bag again."

"The Monsoon Gearslinger is the best bag if you travel far and wide. I work in the restaurant industry and go to school. This bag accommodates everything from my books, laptop, and extra change of clothes and still have room for my bike locks. The best part that it shifts the weight over so it doesn't feel heavy at all. I ride a bike as well and this bag is so comfortable when riding. A bit stiff but i expect it to loosen up with time. The best part is that is has so many pockets. Would totally recommend this bag. I have had jansport and REI sling bags and after Maxpedition i am not going back."

"Awesome. Exceeded my expectations. The only place I could find one of this type. My 15 yr. old son uses it every day for school and baseball practice. Very durable so far. A little pricey but, should last for him and a couple coming alone behind. Paid too much for second day air. Ordered it on Sat., got it on Wed."

"good comfort loaded down with what i need day to day. very easy on the shoulder and the back. one small disappointment; once a week i need to transport a file of letter size papers- they just won't fit. only an inch longer in the length of the bag and the papers would fit without having bent corners. some storage pockets are not as easy for me to use. other than that, a great bag for my everyday use. Oh and i am a 5' 6" female. the fit is wonderful. I highly recommend this bag."

"The best bag I've ever owned! I have gone through Booq, Jansport, Oakley, and Targus: none of them compare to the Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger. A must have for IT pro's out there; a place for everything and an extremely comfortable fit."

"I like the way it's made. When I ride my motorcycle to work I don't have to worry about the items that are being carried and it seems they stay better. This bag should out last me."

"Great bag. Takes time to figure out the best way to use the many features. Using this bag for daily laptop, lunch and a few items for daily work. Plan to buy a slightly larger one for hiking ."

"I like this backpack very much. The only drawback is that the sling strap is so wide that it does not stay on my shoulder (keeps sliding off). I would have liked the option of a narrower shoulder strap or at least the capability of remoiving the strap and replacing with a narrower one on my own. However, the strap is permanently affixed. Other than this, it's quite good. Steve Gordon"

"I live in Brooklyn. I'm always in the middle of a book and it travels with me where ever I go. In the city, you walk just about every where. I've found it is wise to have a bag that has enough room for things like an umbrella, a rain jacket, sunglasses and other items you may find you need during the course of my normal day. I lead class trips. This bag easily carried all of my student's medical forms and an epi pen. I carried a backpack for years and never actually put it all the way on. One shoulder strap was all I ever used. This bag is perfect. love my man purse!"
