"This bag was perfect for my 2.5 week Honeymoon to Europe. I bought two of these bags (one for me and one for my wife) and these could not have worked better. They fit perfectly in the overhead bins on the plane (even when stuffed) and we were never questioned about their size on any of the airlines (even the ones with strict limits, like EasyJet). The measurements are the maximum for carryon...so we had piece of mind that we would not be separated from our luggage. The bags easily fit about a weeks worth of clothing, which meant we only had to do two sets of laundry in Europe. The handles on the bags were great for carrying or for throwing up into the overhead bin on the plane or train. The backpack straps were excellent and nicely padded and the chest/waist straps helped secure the bags and provided a ton of support, which helped with the weight distribution and made any long walks (i.e. train station to hotel) much easier. Also, the number of compartments is somewhat limited, but that is exactly what we wanted to allow for maximum packing space. The pocket at the top of the pack was perfect for toiletries and the thin pocket on the front was utilized for itineraries, plane/train tickets, and directions. The zippers allow for a lock, which perfectly fit a standard TSA lock, and this helped us to secure our bags when traveling or not in the hotel room. This bag was perfect and I can't wait to use it again!"

"The Porter 46 is probably close to the perfect carry-on item for the frequent traveler. It's not a bells-and-whistles backpack with lots of dividers, compartments, or anything like that. (Which is what made me buy it!) What it is is a backpack/bag with one large compartment with a lot of storage room. I can easily fit 3 pants, 3 shirts, a pair of shoes, a sweatshirt, workout clothes, toiletries, and other essentials with room to spare-- in other words, everything for a 3 or 4 day business trip. A small compartment on the outside is perfect for your quart-size bag of liquids. The location of all handles, the tuckaway backstraps, and everything about the design shows that it was clearly designed with fitting in an overhead airplane compartment in mind. Throwing your bag on your back sure beats wheeling around a dorky little roller-bag. It is pretty tall though, so I could see where it could be overwhelming for a very small/short person. Overall, I'm glad I bought this bag, and it really improves the overall efficiency of my traveling."

"This bag was nearly perfect for my 10-day summer trip to Europe. I chose this brand because my husband has an Osprey Waypoint model that has held up extremely well on 3 other trips. The Porter 46 is compact and comfortable to wear, but still had enough room to pack what I needed. It was small enough to carry on the plane. I thought this bag was well worth the money and I can't wait to use it again. The only feature I wish it had is a mesh pocket or two on the outside for water bottles and odds and ends."

"This bag is great, can hold a lot for its size. I will probably look for some packing aids to divide up the large space and make it a bit easier to find what I am looking for. The backpack straps pack away very nicely, making the bag easy to fit in an overhead bin. As a 6ft male it fits me well and is comfortable when it is loaded up. The loadlifter straps and waist belt help distribute the load. However, it does not fit my 5' 1" girlfriend, as it cannot be adjusted small enough. Only addition I would like is a 3rd compression strap across the middle to further control the bulge."

"Great bag. Fits with most airlines carry-on restrictions. Super well made. Not too many pockets, but that's actually a good thing for me--most of the bag is one big open space. Comfy as a backpack if you're not carrying more than 30 pounds."

"(Noting that I have not yet used this backpack for travel! Hope to update my review after I do - departing soon for 2 weeks in Malaysia) Looks enormous, (in a good way) in terms of internal capacity. Construction & handling seem sturdy, although I was disappointed to see the interior unfinished (raw edges & seams, etc.). The various strap/handle/tote/compression options and their hideability seem ergonomically superior, a big reason I chose this bag verified. As with the carry-on compatibility. Nice zippy tuck away places in the main compartment."

"This is a great conversion pack. Even when full, it fits easily in overhead compartments. It's got a good harness for wearing as a backpack, although I often carry it by the very comfortable handles or with a shoulder strap. The outside compression straps really help reduce its size when it's not filled to capacity, while the foam sidewalls help it retain its shape."

"We purchased this bag and a TLS Weekender Convertible for a recent trip to the UK. I ended up using this bag; my husband used the Weekender. I found the bag very easy to pack (with the help of some eBags packing cubes, which came in very handy), easy to carry, and easy to convert. The waterproof section at the top of the bag worked very well for holding liquids, and the mesh compartments on the inside of the "lid" and the proved handy for smaller items such as charging cables and socks. The size and relative difficulty of the outside lid pocket made it less useful, but it was still handy for damp jackets and rain pants. The adjustable waist belt and shoulder straps allowed for secure carrying. I wouldn't want to take it on an overnight backpacking trip, but I easily walked up to 1.5 miles carrying this. Padded handles on the top and side made it relatively painless to carry when the backpack straps were tucked away. I would recommend using packing cubes with this bag. The single large compartment makes it very flexible, but might also make it difficult to locate things."
