"I use this bag for school. It holds two textbooks, two binders and my laptop easily. The laptop compartment is padded and secure, which is a HUGE plus. All the smaller compartments make it easy to find items - no digging around in the bottom of the bag. I absolutely could not LIVE without this bag. It's awesome."

"The Patagonia bag is very nice looking. It is very well constructed. It is a little bit minimalist, but that is the way I like thm."

"Great bag at a fair price. Bought it to transport Dell 15.6 inch laptop. Tight fit and could use more padding, otherwise fine."

"I use this for daily bike commuting to work year-round in all weather conditions - holds a pair of shoes and change of clothes along with bike pump, tools and extra tube. The has performed flawlessly through Fall and winter commuting. It has many thoughtful details that improve performance and allow flexibility in use. Only thing that I would change is to widen the channel through the shoulder pad so that the strap can be easily lengthened - currenly the strap buckle is wider than the pad channel. Overall though, an excellent bag"

"Let me get the negative out of the way first: the strap/buckle situation is less than optimal. I'm tall & usually wear it waist-high, and this was impossible the way the bag came. The position of the buckle & the fact that it is much wider than the pad's opening meant I could never have the pad on my shoulder when wearing it that way. Fixed it by replacing the pad with a better one. The bag itself is great: it's perfect for my everyday use, and has enough depth & width to allow me to fit plenty of cargo in there. The organizer pockets on the front are practically sized for little bits&bobs, though I might have liked them on the OUTSIDE under the flap. The flap has a very nice, practical zippered compartment. Another nit: I would have liked a pocket that occupied the whole of the flap rather than only a third or so, but the bag itself has enough space that it doesn't really bother me. On the back, it has the single greatest feature of a messenger type bag: a full width & height pocket, great for slipping things in & out without having to rummage around in the bag. The waist belt is great for extra stability when you need to move quickly or just don't want a big load shifting around. It's designed so it can be used over either shoulder, though getting the attachment point over the pad can be problematic if you wear it over the right shoulder (but then you only have to do that once). So if you wear the bag high (or you're not over 5¿"), it's pretty much an ideal bag. If you need a longer strap with the option of wearing it high from time to time, be prepared to curse the designer of the strap & buy a nice replacement pad."

"Needed to replace four bags with one: 1) a large computer backpack that was more than I now needed; 2) a very small messenger bag (book bag size) that was too small for my laptop; 3) a laptop bag that was too small for carrying more than just the laptop gear for travel; and 4) a small backpack I've used for overseas travel without the laptop but with everything I need in case my luggage is lost - and I want my gear at my side and not on my back. This Patgonia Half Mass so far fills the bill. Well organized. Great padded strap (will selectively use the waist strap as well). Good selection of outside storage. Seems well-constructed. Patagonia quality evident throughout in fabric and sewing. My 15.5" laptop in a padded sleeve fits nicely in the laptop compartment. The strap-adjustable thickness of the bag is a very nice feature for when I'm traveling light. I ordered a discontinued color and got a sweet discount. Plus it makes the bag stand out a bit from the scrum of black messenger bags. Also looked at Timbuk2 and like their bags but what I wanted was in between two of their sizes."

"I've been looking for several months to replace a bag that has not held up. This bag is the perfect size. It holds my laptop, all the accessories, a jacket, the newspaper and my lunch bag with room to spare. Everything stays organized and it doesn't weigh a ton. I especially like the laptop sleeve that suspends the laptop within the bag instead of it hitting the bottom. It also seems to keep the bag balanced better. The bag was pricier than I wanted but the lifetime warranty will hopefully make the expense worthwhile. I'm very pleased so far and look forward to many years with this bag."

"I love this bag. It holds all of my school stuff (which is heavy) and my laptop (in it's own safe place) and keeps everything nice and dry from the elements (in the case of DC, never ending rain.) I get tons of compliments on it."
