"I have enjoyed using this bag very much. It's very convenient to walk through the airport with just a bag on your back or slung over your shoulder. It is especially nice when travelling in Europe because there are many stairs and cobblestone roads where rollerbags are completely useless. The bag is light and it fills up nicely to the maximum capacity for airlines. I did a 4 week vacation in Europe with only washing clothes once. I fit 3 pairs of blue jeans, 4 long sleeve shirts, 6 t-shirts, 8 pairs of socks, and 8 pairs of underwear, along with other stuff like toiletries and electronics without even having to squeeze the bag to zip it closed."

"I like the MLC much better than a wheeled carry on for airline use. I fine it much easier to get thru the airport. And it stowes easy on the plane. Women may not like it as well, but I find it easier to carry with the strap than try to get a wheeled carry on thru the crowd at the airport. I think it is very well made also. I would buy another one in a minute if I didn't have one and I would recommend it to others. Joe"

"Great bag!!! I like it much better then the hard roller carry on. I can do 4 days of travel with this bag (clothes, toiletries, overcoat, and a pair of tall steel toe boots all packed). The backpack straps are great for when you have to carry it longer distance. Was asked to check and see if it would fit in the carry on regulation fixture and it went in with ease every-time."

"I was looking for a more compact alternative to the TLS Motherlode convertible. The Patagonia MLC fits the bill. It is smaller and lighter. It is still quite capacious and can easily accomodate clothes and items for a 5 to 7 day trip. For $99 it was quite a deal. It is still too early for me to talk about durability but the bag certainly appears to be well built. There are very few negatives but in an era of tablets and netbooks, the laptop compartment may be too big."

"Used this for a three week trip to Africa where weight restrictions for flights very very stringent. Didn't want the added weight of wheels. My daughter and daughter-in-law raved about the capacity, organization, and convenience (backstraps) and they were right. This was a great bag for the trip with many clever design features(instead of interior straps, a hanging bag is included, the exterior shoulder strap is split so you can loop it over the hand strap and it won't drag on the floor."

"I'm a frequent traveler and have recently been looking at a number of bags that can be carried over the shoulder and convert to a backpack, maximize packing capacity, and are light weight. While I had high hopes for the MLC and found the appearance pleasantly neutral (i.e., easily suitable for business or casual trips), I did not at all care for the internal pocket organization. The kicker for me was a front zippered pocket which contains small organizational pockets (the cell phone/document/keys/pens storage area) but the zipper access to the area only goes halfway across the overall pocket. (Think in terms of trying to access an 8x10 photo through a 4x6 access hole and you'll get the idea). Perhaps I'm just missing a very valid reason it was made that way, because I find it hard to believe Patagonia would create such a stupid-seeming design... but regardless, for my purposes, it was just not right, especially since this was the priciest bag I investigated. Returning."

"I like that the bag has backpack straps, which I use very often because it is just little large and heavy to carry messenger-style when fully packed (I am an average-sized woman). The canvas quality is good, but I feel that the zippers are not as sturdy, unfortunately. They are coil zippers, with the teeth sewn onto the base, not fused. The zippers do appear to be YKK. The bag strikes a happy medium in its moderate number of pockets and its small items insert - enough to be useful, but not too many that they take up space."

"It is a great carry-on bag -- the soft sides make it really easy to fit into overhead compartments. That means, though, that it is tough to keep anything in it organized -- the contents tended to devolve into a mass of clothing, no matter how much I tired to roll things, etc. Love the backback straps, though!"

"Enjoying the bag. I thought the shoulder straps would be useful but it turns out I don't use them that way much. My computer loves it! I think I might have been fine with the next size smaller. I guess I dont need to travel with as much stuff as I thought. Bag is still my favorite."

"Super bag for travel. Easy to handle and neatly fits in the overhead. Packing room is good especially when you use the plastic packing bags. All items are easily reached. I would recommend this bag as an excellent choice for travel."
