"Although I would have preferred a ladies backpack, I was not able to find one large enough to accommodate a 17" laptop. I am 5' 6" and thin. I settled for the Heckler because it was one of the smaller North Face mens bags. This bag still rides a bit low on me. The color is bright green, girly enough, but I still wish the Heckler had some feminine color options. One feature I wish this bag had was a separate, zippered laptop compartment. It has a separate section in the main compartment. Other bags did have this feature but the size of those bags were too large for me. I chose a North Face, as I head off to college, because of the durable nature of the product. My older brother has been carrying a Surge, daily, for the last 4 years with little wear and tear. Tough bags, worth the money."

"REASON FOR PURCHASE I did a lot of research looking for a bag that could be used primarily for vacation travel and the occasional hiking trip. Carrying a laptop was not my biggest concern since I won't be carrying one when I'm traveling. FACTORS I CONSIDERED I was not too keen on the waist straps since they would be a bit much walking through an airport or stowing away in the overhead compartment. Although I was torn between the Northface Solaris40 and the Heckler. The Solaris40 seemed more of a hiking pack without a firm structure. So I opted for the largest bag I could find without the waist straps which turned out to be the Heckler. SIZE I was suspicious about its size, 36L, since despite many positive reviews, I had read one review about how it was small-er. However, when it arrived I discovered that it is indeed larger than the average "bookbag". Unfortunately, I have not used the bag yet but it is more than big enough to use as a carry-on for all my things on a trip. The other feature which I found useful is the compression straps. These can be used to make the backpack appear slightly smaller than it actually is. And when they are fully open, I would say the space is equivalent 1-1/2 shoe boxes. Ultimately, if I am rating this backpack purely on its size I would say its perfect for school, and works for travel just as well without being overly large."

"Very well made and appealing item. Saw this backpack in a mall store but did not purchase because of its high price tag. Researched this item and purchased from your webstore at a much more reasonable price. Thanks, I will be coming back to your site again. The main reason I wanted this backpack is for business travel. It falls below the threshold for maximum size of carry-on but is large enough to carry and protect my pc while flying."

"I use this backpack for bicycling excursions and it has been perfect for my needs. The description of this bag was quite accurate, which is always appreciated when ordering things online. This backpack is made very well and will probably last for many years and bike rides to come! No regrets here."

"Shoulder straps are comfortable. bought this for the purpose of school, it has a computer compartment, but with textbooks and binders its cramped. This would be more for day travel. IF it had another main compartment then it would be excellent. The Big student by Jansport by far out performs most bags. It is simple and roomy. And cost half the price of these bags."

"This is a very great 35L bag from North Face.First, its a big backpack with lots of space for everything for everyday use or an overnight trip. You can't beat the quality, craftsmanship and durability of North Face backpacks.I have had many other good backpacks(Oakley,Jansports and Outdoor Products)but they were not as comfy and light as this one on my back(carrying my 16.5" laptop,my 3 thick medical books and 3 pairs of jeans and t-shirts for a weekend holiday trip). The total weight of above things add up about 35lbs.There's only one thing I don't really like about this bag:it has only one big(main)compartment with a zipper and the padded laptop compartment is inside that big compartment which is not with a separate zipper. So,everytime I want to take out my laptop,I would have to take out all the books and everything inside first. And the access to the main compartment is a little smaller than I expected(zippers don't stretch up to the base of the bag).So I haven't used this bag and am going to return it next week. With about $30 more,I found another big one(41 L) called Router from North Face which has a separate zipper & compartment for a laptop. These North Face bags are a little pricey but they are worth every single dollar you pay extra and will last about 8 to 10 years. After all, this is a very good bag but its just not for me.Hope everyone out there would find my review very useful."

"I bought this backpack for my college age son because his first backpack had ripped, and I knew Northface could carry him through the rest of his college days and beyond. It is a very sturdy and well constructed backpack, and I know he is going to enjoy it for many years!"

"Big and roomy. Holds a 17 inch laptop. Quality is unsurpassed by any other manufacturer. My Dad has one he used in college at UCLA in the 1970's. Everything on it still works. He still uses it."

"Since I don't use a laptop, I don't like the hard back panel. Plus the backpack is a little to wide for my frame. The edges of the backpack rub on the back of my arms. I'll be returning it."

"My 14 year old son has been wanting a North Face backpack for quite sometime. I've shied away because of the price. I buy him a backpack yearly for school and they do not last the entire school year. The North Face Heckler will be put to the test this school year! Very impressed with the structure, size and it's compartments. Can even carry his laptop! I've searched the internet for prices and eBags has the lowest! I was shocked at the price and also the free shipping. Thank you. I'll be ordering from you again real soon! Lesli Bloomfield, mother, Greenwood, Arkansas"
