"I owned the previous version of this bag and was very excited about the updates. I have not been disappointed. I use the bag every day for my urban work commute, and I use the bag for my business travel. It excels at both for a number of reasons. For the everyday commute, it comfortably holds everything I need on a daily basis - files, jacket, laptop, iPad, peripherals, glasses, phone, chargers, and does so with a nice weight distribution. I walk two miles each way, to and from work, and even loaded, the bag never feels too heavy. The organization is great, and as always, I love the hidden pocket under the front flap that is just perfect for wallet, keys, my ID badge - all the little stuff that I might need to grab quickly. For travel, all the above holds true, with these bonuses: (a) the bag has a slip through pocket on the back, so I can put it on top of my wheeled carry on, (b) the bag fits perfectly under an airplane seat, so I'm not stuffing the bag or damaging it, and it's not sticking out and tripping people, and (c) that zip compartment in the back allows me to fold the bag completely open, flip it on its flat side and run it through the security check without having to take out my laptop or iPad. That saves a LOT of fumbling at the security line and means I only have to use one bin for my shoes/phone, instead of the three bins I was using before. All of this in a bag that is colorful enough to be unique and easily identified, but professional enough to be taken seriously. This is an extremely functional bag that I will use to death - or until the next set of upgrades comes along!"

"I was torn between the Timbuk2 laptop messanger and the laptop command, so I ordered both to compare. This bag has the clip straps that I like better than the command fasteners that you slip into place. The computer section in this bag was much better as it has two compartments for 7inch tablets, and a larger one for a laptop. The command bag has one floppy sack for a small computer, and that was the main reason I went with the laptop messanger. Down sides to the laptop messanger, there is only two zipper pockets on the outside of this bag, one being the Napolean sleeve, and none inside. The command bag has 5 zipper pockets on the outside if you count the lower one for cords (that was a great feature that is not on the laptop messanger), and another on the inside divider."

"Simply a great bag, strong, durable, and it keeps its shape unlike cheaper light weight bags. The bag has just the right amount of pockets for me. My last bag had so many hiding places I could never find anything."

"Compared to my prior Soren bag the Timbuk2 seems better designed for office-to-home-and-back transport of computer, small peripherals, and the few files I need. Construction and materials seem robust, and appearance more professional. I have been quite pleased with the product."

"I have the smaller Timbuk2 "Control" laptop bag for daily use, and I love it. But I was about to embark on a long international trip and needed more room for files and work-related stuff than my Control was going to be able to manage. The advantages of the Commute include inner and outer bottle pockets (the outer pocket being ideal for umbrella storage when you're traveling to London), and enough room to hold all of the work stuff, Bose headphones and books for in-flight reading. It was solidly packed, but it still fit under the seat in front of me."

"I commute by train each day into work and this bag has been just what I need. In the past I've used various bags that have not worked because they become too bulky and unwieldy when I put everything in them. I can fit a book, my laptop, an IPad, a few papers and my lunch in this bag and it still is comfortable around the shoulders and it is not full. It seems much lighter with all of that stuff than other bags. It has nice padding in the shoulders and compartments in the right place. Excellent bag"

"I recently upgraded from an older Timbuk2 Commute Laptop Messenger to the new TSA-Friendly model and I like it. It may sound odd, but I LOVE the fact that it doesn't have the zillion different pockets and a thick divider cutting the main area in two. Having the laptop pocket as well as a pocket for my iPad accessible from the back is also very nice. This new model doesn't have quite as much padding around the laptop as the older one, but I think that just added too much bulk and weight to the bag when I compare them. My new 15" retina MacBook Pro fits perfectly. I use a grid-it organizer for many of my techie accessories (usb and thunderbolt adapters, iPod/iPad cables, Leatherman multitool batteries, etc), that fits perfectly in the large slat pocket along the back of the main compartment for easy access without having to dig through the bag. Haven't flown with it yet, but am looking forward to the zip-open lay-flat laptop functionality when I do."

"I love this bag. I ordered the gray bag with algae green in the center of the front flap. I was concerned that the color might be too light, but it is a nice medium gray that will not show stains and dirt. My Macbook Pro fits inside it perfectly and I can carry lots of other things too. So many pockets! It's awesome. I would recommend this bag to anyone!"

"Background: I run a website covering San Diego Comic-Con. Great bag. A little tough at first to determine the size I needed, as my 11 inch laptop seems to be a little small for the medium-size bag. However, as my carry-on, I packed this to the gills with every piece of electronics I bring with me (I carry several audio and video recording devices, a portable router, portable gaming, tablet, laptop, external battery charger and all the cords/chargers needed for these) and I only nearly got to the capacity this bag can hold. And with it stuffed, the quality of the bag held together flawlessly. It was also very comfortable on my shoulder, and very roomy with only half the amount of equipment I needed to carry with me at all times. I wholeheartedly recommend this bag to anyone."

"I use my medium sized Timbuk2 Commute messenger bag for periodic commuting via commuter train or car. This bag works quite well to organize and protect my 13.3 inch laptop and all its accessories (room for external disc drive, cables, chargers, wireless mouse) and for my iPad and smartphone as well. With all that, there's still room for water bottle, umbrella, several books, paper and other personal effects. This gear fits in the various compartments with good balance and logic, with ample room to expand. I have yet to really battle test the padding that this bag provides for my laptop and iPad, but so far, they seem secure in their respective smoothly lined pockets. I did not order the brighter Timbuk2 colors; mine is the relatively unobtrusive black/black/black. The overall size of the medium Commute is comparable to that of other commuting bags I have handily used, while providing vastly superior organization for multiple tasks, and surprisingly light weight. I have checked out other competing bags, but so far, I've been quite impressed by this bag's value for the competitive price I paid at eBags during one of its sales."
