Skooba / RoadWired Skooba Shuttle Laptop Backpack |
The Skooba Shuttle doesn't look like any other laptop backpack you've ever seen (and if you're reading this, we're guessing you're probably not the type who wants to look like everyone else). The Shuttle is a lightweight-yet seriously protective-laptop backpack with a fresh and unique approach to styling, shaping and color. But the beauty of this pack goes way, way beyond skin deep.

"can anyone tell me how big the padded laptop areas is, I have HP HDX 18t ( 17.2/12/2). Want to make sure it fits in the padded slot rather than the unpadded area., 0ther bags that say that they will fit HDX 18t, do not fit or fit in the unpadded ares as per reviewers, thanks" |

"As a graduate student, I often have to carry around a laptop to work on my thesis, dissertation, papers for class, etc. This bag is wonderful for that purpose, and fits my hp dv9500t perfectly, although a wee bit snugly (but that is what you want). It carries all of my essential computing items such as power cords, discs, etc. The straps are comfortable, and the padding on the back of the bookbag and shoulder straps are quite comfortable. It has enough room for about 2" of notebooks, books, etc. as well. However, the section that carries your laptop is underneath (ventral when on your back). Your books and notebooks sit above or dorsal to that, putting all of that weight directly on your laptop's screen. I am reluctant to use it to carry very much, so I only carry it and a few notebooks when I absolutely must have my notebook. Otherwise, I carry a regular backpack and leave my laptop at home. For the purposes of carrying my laptop, it is wonderful and protects it well. I also like that it is designed to sit up on it's own. However, if you need to carry other things with your laptop, especially anything heavy, then look elsewhere for a bag. The problem is that most bags don't fit a 17" notebook, and this was the best value. I encourage you to shop around, but if you have a 17" notebook, your options are limited, and at the time of purchase (8/2008), this was the best available. All in all, I give it a 8.5 out of 10." |

"I carry my laptop ( a Lenovo X60 with ThinkPad and gear/wire satchel=heavy stuff!) and a large number of folders and books---and it feels light and secure on my back due to its sloping strap design and padded back. The laptop section is very well padded as well. My iPod fits in the top outer section which is also padded. Having innumerable pockets and many slots, this is my only work bag. The lower outer strap can carry my windbreaker or sweater as well. Well built. Great Design. Lots of room. Good deal. You really can't go wrong with this one. My only wish is it had more variety of colors. Other than that...dynamite bag!" |

"COMFORT: EXCELLENT
Nothing is more important in a computer backpack. Obviously, the designers of this backpack agree, because the comfort is superior. It is light and molds to your back wonderfully. The straps curve inward in the front, cradling and pulling at both your shoulders and chest to distribute the weight evenly over both, limiting the strain on your back and neck. Even when full, I find I can wear the back an hour at a time with only minor discomfort.
CONSTRUCTION: GOOD
Quality abounds here, from the choice of materials to the construction process. The ballistic-grade nylon is strong yet flexible and heavily machine-stitched. The panels of color (orange in my case) are forged of a lesser material and pill easily when snagged on a sharp edge.
The zippers are overly large and thick, but are also plastic and feel cheap. They also stick at the top of both edges initially, to the point where you have to use both hands to free it, but wear in nicely with use. The interior lining is bright to make items inside easy to find, and this does work well, but it looks and feels cheap.
The bottom of the pack has a rubber pad with four long bars that keep the backpack off the ground and provides upright stability, as does the slightly bulging taper. The straps are hugely overbuilt and stuffed with thick, spongey padding, as are the three support panels along the back. The pair of bungee handles at the top are easy to grip and reassuringly strong.
The laptop compartment is part of the primary, large section against the back and filled with the same flimsy material. However, the walls and bottom of the compartment separating the laptop from the rest of the bag is lined with nylon-wrapped air pockets, providing excellent protection. With the addition of an adjustable strap, you can be assured a sung fit. Note: If you are going to use a sleeve, you better make sure it is a snug one. My 17" Macbook Pro encased in a form-fitting Tucano sleeve just fits." |

"The most comfortable backpack I have ever owned. It's amazing how well the bag fits on my back, how light it is and how well my laptop fits into it. I've travelled with the backpack, I use it every day going from home to work and back, and it has been excellent. Completely recommend this bag!" |
