"Terrible design. I love Eagle Creek bags and have accumulated more Eagle Creek travel gear than I can count. This one is a total fail. Purchased it for traveling on public transport in Africa, and was never able to use it for this purpose. Here are the problems with the design of this bag:
1 - The interior liner between the main compartment and the side compartments is flimsy and ripped on my first flight from US to Kenya. The weight of the items in the main compartment (just clothes in packing cubes) was enough to rip the liner when the weight shifted en route.
2 - The side pockets don't have those great Eagle Creek double zippers to lock - only a cloth tab that I used to attach luggage locks. So now with the ripped interior, this bag is useless to me, as it is too easy to access the interior by just cutting the lock off at the cloth tab.
3 - Because the liner between compartments is so thin, the bag sags when you carry it as a backpack. The whole design is just too sloppy.
Very disappointed. Because I live overseas, I can't return this item to eBags and will have to try returning through Eagle Creek. Guess they will fix it, but I don't even want it anymore. Should've saved my eBags credit for a better option. Drats. "
"My first impression is that it has good proportions and dimensions to be able to accommodate what I'll need for a 2-week trip, but is not overly large or bulky. I like that the main zippers are lockable, removing one worry about checking the bag. The bag collapses into itself for easy storage. I do wish it had external or internal compression straps for those times when it's not filled to capacity, to prevent items from shifting. The shoulder straps do not detach completely very easily (there is a quick-release buckle at just one attachment point), but you'll need them all the time anyway, since there isn't a separate single carry strap. This bag is very reasonably-priced relative to competitors (I also looked at North Face and Patagonia duffels)."
