"As expected from Osprey, a quality build. I actually purchased both Flare and the larger Nebula to compare and will return the smaller Flare. The Cactus Green color was a tad more yellow than I liked, but it has a brighter, neon interior that allows for great contrast against your stuff. Both bags have the same front organization including for bike accessories, mesh padded back for comfort (especially to minimize sweat), stern strap (with built-in whistle that works nicely), waist strap, side compression straps and two bottle holders. If you want a slimmer, normal sized backpack, go with Flare. At 5Ǝ", the proportions are nice, especially when navigating crowded subways and traveling for work. It has plenty of space for daily needs, especially commuting with lunch, laptop, tablet, shoes, gym clothes, and bike accessories. It also is nice for a day nike. If I could design my perfect bag, I would add a raincover (although it looks rain resistant with hooded zipper openings) and a hidden back pocket (to avoid pickpockets). Otherwise, if you want the flexibility of a much larger space where you can pack your weekend stuff, go with the Nebula. (The larger Nebula also opens flat so you can go through the airport security check without taking out your laptop.) As for the large main pocket in Flare, the laptop compartment is padded and fits my 15.4" Macbook Pro perfectly and the zippered mesh pocket holds the iPad nicely. (The mesh has a thicker outer layer with larger holes and a finer mesh on the inside for the tablet screen--it's the same material used for the back of the bag.) There's a document pocket between the laptop and tablet compartments that fits your files nicely. Because I do not need two similar bags, I'm returning the Flare. Although I like the moderate proportions of the Flare, I want the flexibility of the larger Nebula. I also prefer the bluer tint of the Nebula's Marsh Green, although I wish Osprey made a brighter apple green."

"Almost perfect. I got this in the cactus green color which is surprisingly neutral and goes with both jeans and my all black travel attire. There are tons of pockets and organizational features, and I like that the waist belt stows into the water bottle cages. My two quibbles: (1) the laptop compartment is a bit deep, much deeper than required for these slim, modern laptops. It could easily hold a 2 13" MBAs stacked (which I've done). The arrangement of the slip pockets is also a bit confusing. The laptop compartment is so tall that I actually mistook the tablet sleeve or slash pocket in front for the laptop compartment to start with. (2) I'm on the short side (5Ƈ"), but I have a normal length torso (IMO). The backpack is still 1" too long for me to be completely comfortable. Since it's so light, however, I'll keep it for travel."
