"Overall I like the bag, however 3 of the 4 Plastic clasp latch fingers broke after 10 months of use which is a major problem as it only 1/2 closes now. I am not rough on the bag, but do use it daily. The fingers seemed to fatigue over time and one by one snap off. I don't remember over-stressing them at any point. It looks brand new otherwise and has held up well. The fabric and zippers are tough. Tons of pockets. Holds my 15" laptop but would not take a 17". One of the many inner pockets with no zipper tends to snag on the laptop when you put it in, which is a minor annoyance.
The latches are 30mm / 1.25" which is not a common size in the US, and they are sewed on so it is not a trivial matter to replace them.
My last TUMI leather Series 3 I bought second hand lasted for 8 years of hard use before major failure so I was hoping for more longevity from this bag."
"Prior to owning this I tried TimBuk2, Chrome and Victorinox messenger bags, which I abandoned for a variety of reasons. Almost a year in and I have no complaints about this bag. It has held up extremely well, like all my other Tumi luggage. I use it daily and travel about 100 days a year. It holds my 15" laptop, iPad, phone, chargers, and work papers easily. Some complain there is no laptop padding, but that's what a laptop sleeve is for, right? Even with all these items, I still have room for a change of clothes and essential toiletries for quick overnight/day work trips. When on personal travel (no laptop or papers), it can hold a weekend's worth of clothes and a dopp kit. Plenty of pockets, dividers, and slots for pens, flash drives, sunglasses, passports, and the like. One of the side pockets even is rubberized for "wet" items. Hands down this is the best bag I've owned, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile messenger bag."
"Beautiful bag, built tough. I use this for everyday to and from work/class. I keep an iPad, two study notebooks and a pad of paper in it. I usually put my lunch bag in there too. Umbrella fits perfectly in an outer pocket and I am trying to find a small reusable water bottle to fit in the other one. I took this on a day trip to DC, easily fit a change of clothes, my toiletries, my iPad, and rain coat. My negative on this bag is I usually over pack it, due to it can hold a great deal. I ended up on this trip with more than what I needed. I plan on taking it on a four day trip to Europe, and may just take this bag. There is initial sticker shock, but you pay for what you get. Very comfortable to walk around with even when it is over 90 degrees."
